As an OSEP Education Program specialist, I:
- Serve as main point of contact for specified State Departments of Education on all matters related to IDEA.
- Review and analyze States' SPP/APR data, engage in clarification discussions as warranted, provide feedback that leads to the Secretary's Annual State Determinations.
- Review States' IDEA Grant applications submitted to the US Department of Education for approvability and develop State grant award letters based on the review.
- Respond to Departmental and stakeholder inquiries on Confidentiality and Privacy matters as they relate to IDEA and FERPA.
- Develop resources to enhance the understanding of Confidentiality and Privacy regulatory requirements.
- Plan and conduct General Supervision monitoring activities for specified States to ensure compliance with IDEA.
- Respond to constituent (e.g., parents/families, school personnel, advocates) IDEA inquiries.
- Provide technical assistance and support to State Departments of Education to achieve compliance with IDEA.
- Contribute to ad hoc workgroups to achieve Departmental initiatives, goals, and objectives.
- Draft policy and guidance documents as warranted in response to stakeholder needs.
- Represent OSEP in cross-office and cross-agency collaborations.
